This is
part of a short series of stories on how each Ghostbuster dealt with the tragic
events on Sept. 11,
2001. I did this not to make light of the situation, but as a way to deal with
the emotions that still run
through the country.
The Days After - Eduardo
by Frederick Aaron Ortiz
"What a Nightmare."
Eduardo Rivera walked toward the coffee shop to grab a cup of coffee of the
day. Since Tuesday, he and the
other Ghostbusters, like all Americans, put their lives on hold to either help
with the rescue effort or the deal with the effects of this event. He got his
coffee and sat in the corner and started to sip away.
"Why."
Eduardo, looked over at a young woman who was looked rather upset. He couldn't
blame her, like everyone
else, he was upset & angry, he wanted to see if he could help, but he was
asking himself the same questions.
"Why would anyone do this?"
"Why would anyone try to bring us down to their level."
Eduardo thought of his family. His father, who served for years in the military,
and his brother who was at
"Ground Zero" doing his part as a proud member of the NYPD. He
thought of his sister-in-law and his nephew.
He thought of Kylie, Roland, Garrett, Egon, Kevin, Janine & Slimer.
Eduardo then started to think of why anyone would want to attack this country.
And the answer was fairly
obvious. The answer was that the United States stands for the freedoms that
were our rights from birth. The
freedom of choice, to believe what we want to believe and so on. He realized
that the answer to all those
questions that everyone is asking was that they want those things, but they
don't want to the work to get
them.
After a few minutes he went over the young lady, to see if he could help.
